Methodology · How we work

Six connected disciplines.

From first design review to long-term maintenance, every discipline is delivered with the same vendor-agnostic approach and the same focus on performance, safety and energy efficiency.

  • Control Solutions and Design

Vendor-agnostic building automation, engineered through a comprehensive design process.

At OC we design our building automation and control systems using cutting-edge vendor-agnostic technology through an extensive and comprehensive design process. We strive for excellence not only in the performance, safety, and energy efficiency of our control systems but in our intuitive single pane of glass user interfaces for building operators as well.

Through the collaborative efforts and combined experience of our design team, we review each application individually to meet the needs of our clients and to ensure a proven custom-tailored solution is engineered for each ongoing project. The design team works closely with the project management, installation, and technical departments to provide a smooth, seamless transition from the initial design stage to the actual implementation and execution of our control systems.

  • Control Products and Services

Increase safety and efficiency with intelligent building automation and controls.

At OC, we make everything from simple, configurable controls for specific equipment to highly programmable automation systems for entire facilities and campuses. Our next-generation building automation systems make it possible to extend automated control to every building system — HVAC, lighting, security and detection — on a single platform.

By using our solutions, you will be able to monitor your building’s system data online so that we can quickly respond to any concerns before they become more serious. Rather than allowing minor issues to go unnoticed and worsen over time, building automation systems enable us to react to problems immediately, either via computer controls or by dispatching a technician.

  • Control Systems Install and Maintenance

Industry-leading controls installed and maintained by our own union electricians.

Industry-leading building controls systems are designed to keep occupants safe and productive, in any space or environment. Configurable controls integrate seamlessly with smart equipment to achieve smart buildings, helping you make smarter, savvier decisions while enhancing comfort, safety and productivity for occupants.

To keep your building automation system running at max performance, we offer regular preventative maintenance to nip problems in the bud. When unexpected repairs are needed, our system repair team will jump in and restore normal service as soon as possible.

The installation team consists of over 70 electricians who are IBEW 213 union members, trained and experienced to perform all types of controls installation. Safety is a top priority: the team is Field Safety Representative (FSR) certified by the BC Safety Authority to ensure the work meets the Safety Standards Act.

  • Control System Commissioning

Quality-first commissioning that verifies every field device and cable before hand-over.

At OC, quality is our priority. We start the commissioning phase by first checking the location and position of the field devices. Next, every field instrument’s cable is end-to-end checked for continuity to ensure there are no breaks or shorts. We then verify that every field instrument is reading the right value and is operating properly to system commands. The instruments are tagged in the field and end-to-end check sheets are populated and prepared for review by the commissioning authority.

Once the field instrument is end-to-end checked, an OC certified technician programs the controllers and runs the system through the approved Sequence of Operation. Once the system is in Auto, OC works closely with the commissioning authority to perform and witness the system operating as per SOP during Functional Verification.

  • BAS Training and Start-Up

Start-up and training plans tailored to the complexity of your system.

For the professionals who design, build, and manage facilities, the desire to improve efficiency and effectiveness is never-ending. More and more, building automation — intelligent, data-enabled automation and related controls — is how we are helping you achieve your goals.

Our BAS team is experienced with many different types of building automation systems. As such, they can implement specific training and start-up plans tailored to your BAS’s complexities, instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Tenant / Retail Fit-Out and Retrofits

Controls for first-tenant fit-outs, stripped-back base building space and occupied alterations.

Whether working with empty base-building infrastructure as a first tenant, space that has been stripped back to its base-building conditions, or existing occupied space that now needs significant alterations to accommodate new requirements, Olympic Controls has the expertise. We are proud to serve as your tenant fit-out HVAC controls contractor.

We live and breathe efficiency in all our project endeavours, striving for effective layouts, smooth traffic flow, optimal design and minimal customer and company interruptions during construction — coordinating with existing building systems and infrastructure and using multi-phased approaches to minimise your costs and time.
